NVAT - Network Vulnerability Analysis
The overall goal of our approach
is to formulate a theoretical basis for constructing global metrics
that can be used to analyze and proactively manage the impact and recover
from complex network faults/attacks.
Analogous to the biological systems
that use ecological metrics such as temperature or blood pressure to
quantify the health state of an organism, we introduce a novel
Abnormality Distance (AD) metric to quantify the network system states (e.g. normal,
uncertain, and abnormal). The basic principle of using network
attribute is shown in the figure below, in which the network states are determined
through online monitoring of whether the AD is over the normal operational
thresholds. This provides the mathematical basis to proactively respond
to faults/attacks in real time.
